The Vampire Diaries: Team Human

This is more of a rant than actual analysis. Sorry! Also, it is spoilery (through last week). Onward!

In discussions of Disturbing Behavior this week, I keep being stunned by a certain theme to people's comments. People are mad at Alaric for joining the Council to stand up for the humans in town! People are mad at Caroline for defending her dad against Damon! What? WHAT? People. Come on. I know they're pretty and all, but when there are MONSTERS KILLING EVERYONE, what you do is STAND UP FOR THE VICTIMS. I loved Alaric in this episode. His best friend killed him - AGAIN - and he didn't just take it or make excuses or make himself forgive. He realized it was time to get involved. GO ALARIC.

I guess some of the people who are upset are those who watch the show just because they want to look at Ian Somerhalder and have therefore concluded that everything Damon does must be right. And that . . . just does not make sense to me at all. I mean, I get watching something for a specific actor. I do that! I am still watching Ringer mostly based on the promise of future Jason Dohring! He hasn't even shown up yet! BUT. Liking an actor does not mean you have to think the character can do no wrong! And if you're mainly interested in a certain character, wouldn't you rather he be complex and interesting rather than "always right la la la I cannot hear any suggestion of multidimensionality"?

But anyway. That is a little off track. My POINT was that it is natural and correct for people to protect people they care about from people OR monsters who may be trying to kill them. This is why I have always sided with Matt, as well: if you find out serial killers are running around, you CALL THE POLICE. Full stop. And I cannot freaking believe that this is in any way a controversial statement.

People either just watch the show or STFU!

  2. You are right on the money. I am a huge Damon fan, but I would much rather see a character develop because they were called on their b.s. than get what they want based on being 'pretty.'
