Oscar Project 2018: The Disaster Artist

Movie: The Disaster Artist

I'm not a fan of The Room - though I read about it and watched some clips ahead of time so I wasn't walking into this blind - so I realize I am not the target audience for this movie. I was expecting "not for me." I was NOT expecting to passionately hate it! I think my main issue with the whole concept of this movie was not that The Room was bad, because whatever, but that the whole project of The Disaster Artist seemed to be to celebrate Wiseau treating the people around him terribly. Now, there are certainly many interesting stories to tell about awful people, but the way this went about it was way too adulatory for me.

Availability: You may be able to find it in a few theaters ahead of the Oscars, but it's mostly gone from theaters and not available for purchase yet.

Nominated In:
Writing (Adapted Screenplay): If this self-indulgent nonsense beats James Ivory AND Aaron Sorkin in this category, I will burn down the entire world.
